Some Things About Kevin

Hi, everyone. I’m Kevin Shamel. I write stories.

Until recently, I wasn’t sure what kind of stories I wrote. Actually, I wrote a lot of kinds of stories–science fiction, fantasy, comedy, horror, romance, surreal, pornographic, environmental… I’ve covered a lot of genres. But the constant theme of my writing, no matter what genre I’ve explored, has always been weird.

Not long ago I learned that there are many others out there like me. Writers who understand the beauty of the weird. Authors who are not afraid to break taboos, rules, and a few eggs (not to mention toy guitars, cans of beans, action figures and meat). People who can go beyond the boundaries of convention and break new ground. Authors who are not afraid to entertain people first and foremost with their writing.

I found those people and rushed to them with open tentacles arms. Fortunately, they embraced me.

I found Bizarro. A genre to encompass many genres under the umbrella of weird. A gorgeous, perfect literary movement highlighting entertainment and quality writing. Phenomenal writing. These people, these Bizarros, they are the future.

I am proud to be a New Bizarro Author.

I’ve finally discovered what I write–science fiction, romance, comedy, horror, and fantasy Bizarro. I’m a Bizarro writer.

Thankfully, Eraserhead Press thinks so, too. My first book, Rotten Little Animals, will be published by their new imprint, the New Bizarro Author Series (I’ll provide information about that as time goes on). I’ve found a home and it couldn’t be a happier one.

Here’s more about me:

I’m married and have two sons. I love peanut butter and chocolate. Our family lives with a cat and a dog. We like the dog most. (It sounds so much meaner than it is.) I like to cook. I like to mix and serve martinis. I write as often as possible. I always have something to write about. I draw and paint, too, but not as well as I’d like to. I’ve tried to learn to play the guitar for ten or fifteen years. I like rootbeer. I tend to write about secret animal societies–I don’t always try to. There is hardly any music I do not like. I like sage tea–fresh sage from the garden is best. I like rain. My writing is influenced by nature more than literature. I prefer quiet to loud. I like green but I don’t have a favorite color. I try not to collect things.

There’s plenty more about me but I’ll stop there. You can make the rest up.

(If you make up something particularly entertaining, please write it down and send it to me at kevin@shamelesscreations.com )
